Conscious traveling isn’t just about being conscious of the world around you, it’s also about you. Knowing how to stay healthy while traveling is key to letting your conscious lifestyle overflow into your travels.

It can be a challenge to bring this level of mindfulness to traveling. Typically when we travel all bets are off when it comes to our mental and physical health.

When you’re in a new place you want to discover it all. The cuisine, the sights, the nightlife, the landscapes, etc. We forget that we need to take care of ourselves first and explore second.

That’s why I’ve put together this list of 8 wellness travel tips that are extremely simple and won’t take you away from your adventure.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is important whether you’re traveling or not. When we are on a trip we tend to forget to drink as much water as we should. Especially on flight days, we need to almost double our intake of water because flying dehydrates our bodies.

My best travel hack is to bring a water bottle with a built-in filter. That way you can refill it anywhere, without having to worry about if the water is clean or not.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

Ever heard the age-old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well, I am not an expert but— when we’re traveling I believe it.

During a trip we tend to be more active than in our normal life, we’re walking more often without realizing it because there’s so much newness to soak in.

Starting the day with a healthy and hearty breakfast gives our body the nutrients and energy it needs. Plus it’ll help you not overeat at lunch.

It’s become a favorite travel ritual of mine to find a cute breakfast spot on my trips. I love that I can turn breakfast into a moment of being able to connect with the local community and see a bit more of the culture.

In-flight Movement

If you’re on a flight that is over 4 hours, you should be getting up and moving around.

You don’t have to do full-on yoga—although I’ve definitely seen people do it. Walking up and down the aisle, a couple of times is enough to get your blood circulating.

If you’re on a super long-haul flight make sure to book an aisle seat and try to get up every hour at least once.

Plan Active Outings

While hitting the gym while you’re traveling isn’t exactly a great use of your time in a new location, there are other ways to get your heart pumping without being confined to the workout room at your hotel.

That’s why one of my favorite wellness tips for traveling is to plan at least one active outing.

Most destinations have at least one or two adventurous excursions that you can partake in while you’re there. This could be a small trek, swimming in the sea or a lake, or even helping the local farmers with their olive harvesting.

Doing these more adventurous activities will keep you physically well while you’re traveling without taking away from the experience of being away.

A clean learning space will help facilitate your kids’ learning abilities. Following these methods will certainly help make your kid’s learning space better and cleaner.

Eat Balanced

When you’re on holiday you should always eat the cake so to speak. Try the local flavors, indulge yourself in one too many ice creams— but don’t forget about the healthy stuff too.

Keeping it balanced is the best travel wellness tip for eating. If you have a super greasy meal for dinner one night, try balancing it with a fresh and healthy breakfast the next day.

If you drink one too many spicy margaritas at the beach one day try to have a day sipping coconut water the next.

You’re on holiday, so you should enjoy yourself but you don’t want to return home feeling bloated and disgusted with yourself— you want to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Rest & Recover

It’s easy to feel guilty about taking time to rest when you’re traveling. You want to  pack your days full of activities because you don’t want to miss a thing, and want to make the most out of your time.

Taking some time for some good ol’ R&R is important and something that you don’t need to feel guilty about. Resting doesn’t mean you have to sit in your hotel room, it can mean laying on the beach, going to a spa, or taking a local gentle yoga class. Even sleeping in an extra hour counts.

It just means that you’re taking some time for self-care and not running yourself ragged while you’re traveling.

Make Time to Meditate

Your mental health is just as important as your physical, yet when we travel it tends to be the thing we neglect the most.

Luckily, meditation is available anytime, anywhere. Which makes it easy to take care of your mental well-being from where ever you are.

By setting aside five minutes a day to meditate while your traveling, you’ll not only keep up your mental wellness but you’ll be able to be a more conscious traveler. You’ll be more present and mindful during your trip, soaking in everything that you’re experiencing.

Let your creative mind run wild. It’s also a great way to spend time with your kids.

Disconnect

One of the quickest ways to lose your mental well-being and time on your trip is to be overly connected to social media.

Worrying about posting the perfect photo on Instagram can steal hours from your day. Plus if you scroll across someone else traveling you might start to question if you’ve made the right choice of destinations, and that’s a rabbit hole you don’t need to go down.

Try to disconnect as much as possible while you’re traveling so you can be fully connected to where you are.

You will have plenty of time on your flight back to choose the photos to post on your feed, and if I am being honest— no one cares if you post during your trip or after, everyone is too caught up in their own lives to notice.
