Recently I was doing a neighborhood cleanup and I was shocked by the amount of plastic waste that was mindlessly littered. Since then it’s been nearly impossible to ignore the overwhelming presence of plastic and waste in my daily life.
From veggies and fruits wrapped in plastic and even the bulk section of grocery stores only offering plastic containers (not zero waste stores), it’s not easy to escape the omnipresence of plastic waste.
Think about it— every item of plastic you’ve ever used is still on this earth somewhere. The toothbrush from when you were 8, the plastic cups from your party years in college, and all the food wrappers you’ve ever thrown away are out there, and worse, they will outlast you on this earth.
If that’s not enough, it seems downright silly that we’re using a finite resource (plastic is just oil after all) so mindlessly— wouldn’t we rather save the oil for something a little more important than a plastic fork?
